15.03 WR
Joey Galloway
By Tim Hollar
Well, I guess I have now fully hitched my wagon to the Tampa Bay
offense with a QB, RB and WR now on my roster. It
wasn't intended, but the draft board value drew me there again
in the person of Joey Galloway.
Galloway's modest 2004 season totals belie the fact that once
fully healthy from his early season hamstring injury, he nearly out pointed
fellow wideout Michael Clayton over the final six
games - 96.5 to 91.80.
In fact, 27-339-5 of Joey's 33-418-5 totals came in his last
half dozen. And as a bonus, all of it came with QB Brian Griese
at helm which should bode well for their 2005 chemistry.
Given the lack of receiving competition on Tampa Bay and Joey's
strong finish, I am truly surprised he lasted this long.
I hesitated taking earlier due to bye week considerations and
the current Tampa ties on my
roster. But at this late date in the proceedings those
worries were brushed aside in the name of solid veteran value.
I think 50-750-6 or more is quite possible.

15.04 PK
Paul Edinger
By Brady Tinker
Edinger was traded to the Vikings a month ago and will battle
for a job - but the Vikings like this guy and have seen his leg
and toughness up close. Edinger will be a wonderful indoor
kicker with a leg more than capable of kicking the long ones!
I love kickers on high scoring teams. |

15.05 TE
Chris Cooley
By Tony Holm
Time to whip out the sleeper TE
list and Chris Cooley is who I was targeting when I was game
planning this draft as a guy to get if I ended up having to
grasp for a TE. A lot of people are going to say,
"Who?" Perfect I say! "Who?"
players can always be had later in a draft and I was fairly
sure I was going to be able to get him which enabled me to
steer away from TE earlier on. I didn't want to over pay
for a TE as the position scores just a blip above 0 in the FAD
so my plan was to target 2 solid sleeper TEs that could be
had late. The advantage to running with two is that
one always has the potential to crack my starting lineup as a
floater. My sleeper TE list was:
Dallas Clark
L.J. Smith
Chris Cooley
Doug Jolley
Jerramy Stevens
I just missed Dallas Clark but did
get my targeted #1 and #2.
Chris Cooley is a converted RB as
the Redskins drafted Cooley as a RB but have converted him to
TE due to his receiving ability. To have a RB for a TE
is a good thing. The rumor is that Rod Gardner will be
shown the door in Washington in a salary cap move and that
will help Cooley see an extra ball or two on Sunday. In
the FanEx FAD scoring system Cooley finished 12th last year
which makes him the last best #1 TE on a FAD team and as the
18th TE drafted, he would have to slip pretty far in 2005 to
not pay me back for his draft position. Cooley was a
monster in the red zone hauling in 6 TDs which ties him for
3rd in the NFL at the position along with some names you may
recognize:
Jason Whitten, Alge Crumpler,
Jeremy Shockey and Marcus Pollard.
What I really like about Cooley is
how he finished up his 2004 campaign. The last 6 weeks
of the season in the FAD scoring the top TEs were:
1. Tony Gonzalez
2. Jason Whitten
3. Antonio Gates
4. Chris Cooley
Hmmmmm....

15.06 TE
Freddie Jones
By Jerome Hickerson
This one was a reach. In retrospect, I wish I had made a
different choice. Freddie Jones has shown some glimpses of hope
throughout the years, and the Panthers have shown a willingness
to use the TE near the goal. These are the reasons I selected
Jones as my #2 TE and the 19th TE drafted. But in
retrospect, I think I would have done better with Doug Jolley.
(Just a hunch.) Hopefully, I will
feel different at the end of the season….

15.07 WR
Peerless Price
By Del Pilar | Bonini
Who We Took and Why:
The pickings were awfully slim as our 15th selection came
up, particularly as we look to round out our running backs or
receivers. However, one name certainly stood out at this point,
not because of his incredible production, but rather that a No.
1 NFL wide receiver was still on the board. That receiver was
Price, and he became a pretty solid fifth receiver with at least
some potential upside late in the draft.
Other
Candidates Considered:
The only other player we really looked at here was Denver
Broncos RB Maurice Clarett, who is just one of those really
intriguing players. However, in a league where you can’t make
any in-season moves it seemed to be an unnecessary risk given
his uncertain situation and one we ultimately didn’t feel like
taking at this point.
Current
Strategy:
We now have concluded our drafting at three positions with
three still to be rounded out – next round we’ll be almost
certainly be looking to secure our final running back before
drafting a backup defense and kicker in the final two rounds.

15.09 DT
Bears CHI
By Shannon O'Leary
Coming
into the 15th round I decided to take my second
defense as the defenses are up and down from week to week. I had
the Panther and the Bears on my short list. I watched as the
Panthers were taken just prior to my pick.
The
Bears are a solid defense and even better when Urlacher is not
injured. Urlacher was banged up for a lot of the season last
year. The Bears are an opportunistic defense which in Fantasy
terms can translate into points. |

15.10 PK
Jeff Reed
By Dolfi | Walls
Dolfi’s Take
– We toyed with the thought of drafting a Kicker last round,
but decided to put it off one more round under this scoring
system. That being
said, we’re thrilled to grab Jeff Reed at this spot and fully
expect him to be one of the better kickers again in 2005.
Last
year was just Reed’s 3rd season, and only 2nd
full season, but he ended up 3rd overall in kicker
scoring in the NFL last year, with a very respectable 124
points. Coincidentally,
the Steelers were also the #3 team in terms of Field Goals
attempted – and we don’t see any reason why 2005 would be
different.
The
Steelers, and Coach Cowher’s philosophy has always been to
rely on their defense to win games.
You saw it in 2004 and you’ll see it again in 2005.
And while that doesn’t always add up to lots of TDs,
that’s not where a fantasy kicker makes his money, anyway.
The Steelers are the kind of team that would rather put
up 3 points on the scoreboard rather than rolling the dice to
make a long 4th down – and that’s smart football.
But it takes 2 things to make that work: a good defense,
and a good kicker. Pittsburgh
has both, and now our team has Reed. |

15.11
DT Bengals
By Duane Cahill
Truth be told, the Bengals
defense was supposed to be my 16.02 pick, and I was supposed
to land the Panthers D here. However, Tim Hollar took
Mike Trgovac's staff three picks ahead of me. So
instead of getting the Bengals as my DT2, they're my DT1 and
I'm still very happy with that. The plus to missing
out on the Carolina D was that I changed my strategy in
midstream and got an excellent young TE at 16.02 that likely
wouldn't have been there at the end of the 17th. But
I'm getting ahead of myself...
Each year, the Bengals defense
improves and becomes more of a product of Marvin Lewis'
need for speed and toughness. They were third in
takeaways in 2004 and their sack total improved almost 25%
over the previous year. Their defensive backfield
was much improved and should continue to improve in
'05. All the ingredients are in place for the former
Bungles to leap into a position of a top 3-6 defense in
2005.

15.12 DT
Redskins
By TC Cannon
Last year was DC Gregg Williams
first in Washington and they made a dramatic turnaround
from a NFL #25 ranking in 2003 to the NFL's third best overall
unit. However, do note that their FF improvement was barely noticeable.
I feel good that the Redskins will be very respectable in a
majority of their 2005 games, due to recent improvements in
their production. (In other words, my fingers are crossed.. I
even ignored a strong PK2 Stover to claim them.)
