FanEx Analysis Draft
FAD Guest
Guest Schedule | Guest Form | FAD Results

The Analysis Draft will on begin Wednesday, May 8th at 12 noon ET. We will be welcoming GUEST ANALYSIS again for this draft. Please contact TC Cannon if you are interested in writing a few player reviews.

A few new things for our 2002 FAD! Along with the basic draft slot assignments, we have added 'floater' slots for guest analysis. Those that have a float slot can write about any of the selections in their grouping. (As an example, the 1-3 slot may write about any one of the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd picks in the round - You pick it!) Also, we now have the guest schedule online and an online form for submitting your insights.

The current guest schedule is here.

Open letter to all guest writers -

First off, the FanEx membership thanks you for your commitment and support. Your player analysis is an important addition to our annual efforts.

Let's cover the basics.
FAD will begin on May 8th. There are 12 teams and 16 draft rounds.
The most special thing about the FAD scoring rules is that it's a best-ball scoring format were there are NO POST-DRAFT TRANSACTIONS and there are NO starters are named. Each team is credited with it's best scoring players each week.

Regarding your written analysis....
Guest analysis will be posted ASAP following your submission. This is normally later the same date.
Be yourself. Entertain the reader..
There is no word limits and no suggested length to your submission. All submissions may be edited.
Guest analysis are for the "player" selection, not to debate the choice. In other words, if you like RB Giant or WR Saint over the selected QB Dolphin, you are to comment on the selected player, not compare your thinking against others. Write what you think of QB Dolphin and why. Certainly, you may mention the negatives.. and BRIEF contrasting option. Always remember you are review the player - not the owner's selection.

Here is some samples from past drafts..

1.10 RB Marshall Faulk | STL - Butler
by Guest XxxxXxxx of XYZ.com
The team owner must live in Las Vegas because this is definitely a gamble for a first round pick. The payoff for this could be huge because the Rams have done a lot to improve their previously pathetic offense in the offseason. With the addition of Trent Green at QB, a questionably deathly Isaac Bruce and rookie Terry Holt at WR, and an improved offensive line with a more experienced Orlando Pace and the addition of Adam Timmerman, the offense could explode in 1999.

But the Rams are still the Rams. They haven't been good since Marshall was a in diapers. It may take a long time for all the new faces to learn to play together. They also have to play the 49ers and the Falcons twice, and these are games where they probably won't score more than 10 total points.

Marshall is a proven stud RB, but any time a player changes teams it is a big gamble to take them in the first round. Passing up on players who are more of a sure thing is definitely a big gamble in my book. Then again, both these members seem to have a solid FF history.. until they got this "Faulk fever". -grin-

#2.05 WR Joey Galloway | Kadlec
By Guest Xxxx Xxxxx of Houston, TX
Surprise. Surprise. Joey Galloway getting picked here has got to have prognosticators scratching their heads everywhere. It seemed apparent that Emil Kadlec would grab one of the few semi-premiere RBs left with this pick, or maybe a QB. I was totally unprepared to do an analysis on another WR.

Still available were Emmitt Smith, Edgerrin James, Robert Smith, and Duce Staley; along with QBs Vinny Testaverde and Chris Chandler. Why grab Galloway when Freeman is already there?

Make no mistake, this was a great pick. Galloway has an opportunity this year to put things into high gear and could very well make also rans out of those NFC Central wide-outs. Kadlec has insured that his receiving corps will be the envy of the league. This Freeman/Galloway duo is an easy 22+ TD's and each will see 1,000+ yards. Galloway was the best available player and Kadlec brought him in. Could there be a trade in the future? Possibly, but since there were already opportunities to trade out of this pick, it appears Emil's intention is to go with this dynamic duo.

5.05 WR Tony Martin | MIA - Nulty
by Guest Xxxxx Xxxxxx of XYZ.com
I would love to sit here and type about how risky this pick is and that Martin should not be taken this high in the draft. But quite honestly, I can not do that. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, who in this country believes that Martin will serve jail time? Not wanting to get into cases like Simpson and Blades, but the truth is that these guys have to money to afford the best lawyers and odds are that he will at very worst get a slap on the bruised wrist.

So, now we're back to the merits of this pick. If there was one team in the NFL that has been needy of a Tony Martin, it is the Miami Dolphins. He has proven himself to be a very good WR from both the yardage standpoint and catches. But the primary thing that he brings to the table in Miami is that he is a WR with a nose for the endzone.

One thing that I look at in my analysis of a pick are the choices made just prior to it. Assuming Martin plays, he very well should have better years than Kitna, Bruce, and Kirby. That would mean that Nulty is taking a small risk, but can reap the rewards of drafting a second to third round talent in the fourth. These are the kinds of moves that can win championships.
